Osnabrück (dpa) - 1. FC Nürnberg gave VfL Osnabrück its first defeat of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The Franks won the away game 4-1 (3-0) on Monday evening and improved to tenth place in the table thanks to their second win of the season.

Osnabrück missed the jump to second place on March 6th due to the highest defeat at home since the 2: 6 against SV Wehen Wiesbaden on March 6th.

Manuel Schäffler (25th), Fabian Nürnberger (29th) and Felix Lohkemper (43rd) had already given the club a 3-0 lead at the break.

Schäffler scored again in the second half (71st), before Sebastian Kerk scored the only goal for VfL Osnabrück with a penalty kick (90th).

Nuremberg coach Robert Klauß had hoped before the game that his team would be at least the tabular outsider role.

And indeed, his players have trumped the previous surprise team of the season from the start.

In the fourth minute, Pascal Köpke, who was injured a little later, had a great chance to take the lead, but failed because of Osnabrück's goalkeeper Philipp Kühn.

The guests had the game under control at all times and deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute.

After some great preparatory work by Enrico Valentini, Schäffler was there in the middle.

By contrast, there was almost nothing to be seen of VfL.

A header from Maurice Trapp (13th) - that was all the hosts had to offer.

And Nuremberg used the complete blackout of the purple-whites to decide the game before the break.

Unlike in the previous five games, when the Franks had lost one lead, this time they remained stable.

After a serious mistake by Osnabrück's Bashkim Ajdini and Lohkemper, Nürnberger ensured the reassuring half-time lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Osnabrück coach Marco Grote tried to bring new momentum to his team's actions with three changes.

But that also failed on this dreary evening from Osnabrück's point of view.

VfL didn’t get any significant chances and deservedly suffered their first defeat of the season.

Schäffler made everything clear with his second goal around 20 minutes before the end.
