The Socialists want to unblock the conflict with United We Can on evictions as soon as possible, which in the last week has caused a public confrontation in the Government.

Not on the merits of the matter, but because of the decision of the

purple

formation

to present an amendment to the General State Budgets of its own Executive, together with ERC and Bildu, in which it claims to extend them until 2023.

In Podemos they justify this decision in that they have been demanding a formula for months to prevent foreclosures from occurring both for non-payment of mortgages and rent.

The issue has strained the coalition until it became an insurmountable point of friction.

The amendment upset the PSOE and caused some socialist ministers to charge the ink against Podemos.

But it is assumed that it is necessary to manage this controversy and give it a solution.

Pedro Sánchez himself, in an appearance this Sunday, did not rule out the extension of the ban, in force at the moment until January 31, but for people affected by coronavirus.

"We are open to solving problems"

The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE and Minister of Transport, José Luis Ábalos, confirmed this Monday that negotiations are already under way with Podemos within the Executive to arbitrate an exit.

Meetings are taking place at a "technical level", he said.

"My idea is that this week within the Government we can advance" on the issue of evictions.

"The important thing is to solve problems in the most efficient way and we are open to doing so."

Ábalos has thus opened the option for the discrepancies on this matter to be resolved with a pact within the Executive, which would be reflected in a new decision of the Council of Ministers (a decree law), and not with a transactional one in Congress.

The leader has suggested that the limitations on evictions could be extended for the duration of the state of alarm, currently in force until June, and to protect people with problems prior to the pandemic, in prolonged unemployment, or without resources, whose The situation has worsened with Covid-19.

The PSOE wants "legal certainty"

But what the socialist part of the Executive wants to avoid, and this is the crux of the negotiation, is the free bar to prohibit evictions until 2023 that Podemos demands.

Because they think that it can be an incentive to

squatting

and because in the case of small owners, with a rented second home, the non-payment of that rent can sink their income and cause economic problems added to those that it is trying to alleviate.

Insistently, Minister Ábalos has repeated that it is essential to address this issue with "legal certainty."
