Dresden (dpa / sn) - In the Corona crisis, the Saxon State Teachers Association has again spoken out in favor of regional regulations instead of a general school closure or class division.

Depending on the occurrence of the infection, both normal operation with lessons according to the regular timetable and limited regular operation with class and group separation should be possible, the association announced on Monday.

Area-wide restrictions on school operations are not the right fit for every specific situation on site, said chairman Jens Weichelt.

In a member survey by the association, 72 percent refused to allow classes to take place exclusively at home again;

64 percent were in favor of normal operation under pandemic conditions - if the number of infections allowed it;

77 percent of those surveyed were in favor of restricted regular operation with increasing numbers of infections in the area.

According to its own information, the association surveyed 2,300 teachers.

However, the cases of infection had "massively increased" in some schools, it said.

In this case, a closure is necessary in order to effectively counter the infection process.

The teachers' association sees a need for action, among other things, in the transportation of pupils.

He suggested equalizing overcrowded buses and trains by using additional means of transport or by staggering the start of lessons.
