Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) spoke out in front of the federal-state consultations on Wednesday in favor of easing contact restrictions over Christmas and New Year's Eve.

In an interview with "SWR Aktuell Rheinland-Pfalz", she said on Monday evening that one should also think of those who worked in shifts over Christmas and New Year's Eve and had no opportunity to meet their relatives and friends on the holidays.

“That's why I think you should actually relax the contact restrictions a little on Christmas through New Year's Eve or into the New Year.

Our proposal is a household plus people outside the household of up to 10 people, whereby children are not counted, of course, because you cannot say that a child up to 14 years of age stays at home because the number is skipped, ”says Dreyer.

That would be "a good arrangement for Christmas and New Years".

The Prime Ministers of the federal states want to consult with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) again this Wednesday via video link and then decide on a concept for December and the turn of the year.

The nationwide partial lockdown with the closings of restaurants, cultural and sports facilities applies until the end of November.

In response to the discussion about a ban on firecrackers on New Year's Eve, the Prime Minister emphasized that she did not want to prohibit firecrackers with family or friends in front of their own door.

Rather, it is about preventing large crowds from setting off New Year's fireworks.
