Berlin (dpa) - The SPD has accused coalition partner Union of blocking the expansion of the charging network for electric cars.

SPD parliamentary group vice Sören Bartol said the Union was delaying the start-up of public charging stations.

Specifically, it is about the Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) and the expansion of the line and charging infrastructure for e-mobility in the building sector.

The parliamentary deliberations on a draft law are dragging on.

The coalition is thus implementing EU requirements.

In a letter to Union colleagues, SPD MPs criticize that the Union only wants a 1: 1 implementation of the EU minimum standards.

The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reported on it first.

The GEIG is an important law, because the private charging infrastructure is the crucial bottleneck for the transformation of the automotive industry, it says in the letter.

"If we want to remain competitive and remain a technology leader, we, as the world's largest automobile nation, have to and want to make courageous and consistent progress on this issue."

Bartol said: "We are the country with the greatest ambition and the most efficient industry in e-vehicles, and the Union is slowing this development."

The Chancellor promised companies billions for e-mobility and her ministers and her parliamentary group prevented the transformation because there was no infrastructure.
