Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Right-wing extremism continues to predominate in politically motivated crimes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In the third quarter of 2020, the police recorded 330 politically motivated crime nationwide, according to the state government's response to a small request from the left in the state parliament.

Of these, 253 were assigned to the right-wing extremist area, 37 to the left-wing extremist and one to the area of ​​“foreign ideology”.

In 39 cases it was therefore not clear which area they were to be assigned to.

According to the information, 14 people were injured in violent acts, 8 of them right-wing extremists, 4 left-wing extremists and 2 incidents that were not part of any camp.

The interior expert of the left in the state parliament, Peter Ritter, said that it remains the most pressing task of politics and society to remain vigilant and active against any right-wing extremist polemics or violence.

"This also applies to the so-called anti-corona protests, which are increasingly being hijacked by right-wing extremists nationwide," he emphasized.

The number of left and right-wing extremist crimes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had increased last year, according to the latest report on the protection of the constitution.

In 2019, a total of 930 (2018: 872) crimes were rated as right-wing extremist in the country.

In the left-wing extremist area, 92 crimes were counted, three more than in 2018.
