Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff supports the fact that the currently applicable restrictions on the corona pandemic will continue.

The infection rate continues to move at a high level, said the CDU politician on Monday.

The heads of government of the countries agree that now is no time for easing.

"We therefore advocate extending the partial lockdown."

Haseloff emphasized that aid pledges for affected industries and entrepreneurs would have to be extended accordingly.

In addition, there should be exceptions to the strict contact restrictions for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

The federal states want to adopt a joint paper on Monday on how to deal with the infection process in the coming weeks.

A round of talks by the federal and state governments via video link is planned for Wednesday.

In Saxony-Anhalt and nationwide, contact restrictions have been in effect since the beginning of November - the hospitality, culture, leisure and sports sectors are largely closed.

The measures were initially limited to the end of November and were intended to significantly reduce the number of new infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen.

Haseloff and the black-red-green state government in Saxony-Anhalt had deviated from the nationwide agreed corona rules several times in the past few months and had recently remained open to going their own way if the number of cases fell.

On Tuesday, the ministers will discuss the plans negotiated up to then and how to proceed in Saxony-Anhalt.
