Berlin (dpa / bb) - In the event of an extension of the partial lockdown, quick financial aid is crucial for Berlin's gastronomy industry, according to estimates from the industry.

If politicians decide to extend the measures until December, that would have to be accepted, said Thomas Lengfelder, General Manager of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) Berlin, on Monday.

The prerequisite is that the promised November aid reaches the restaurateurs quickly and is also extended.

The industry can only survive if the funds are also available in December, Lengfelder said.

Apart from that, restaurateurs are entrepreneurs.

"Our companies want to work and not receive state money."

As in spring, restaurants have only been allowed to sell food outside the home since the beginning of November, and hotels are only allowed to accommodate business travelers.

The companies affected are to be compensated by the federal government and reimbursed up to 75 percent of their sales from November 2019.

On Wednesday, the federal and state governments will decide how to proceed with the corona pandemic.

An extension of the partial lockdown until shortly before Christmas is under discussion.

According to Lengfelder, only a small number of Berlin innkeepers make use of the option of selling food outside the home.

In financial terms, this business is just a drop in the ocean.
