Karstädt (dpa) - After burglars cut fiber optic and copper cables in a Telekom operating facility, around 2000 telephone and Internet connections in the Prignitz district are disrupted.

The perpetrators broke into the operating site in Karstädt on Monday night, as a spokesman for the network operator announced.

"The Telekom technicians have been working since the early hours of the morning to repair the extensive damage," it said.

Customers would have to be prepared for further disruptions by Tuesday morning.

The RBB had previously reported that the emergency numbers 110 and 112 could not be reached in the region and in the state capital Potsdam due to the break-in.

The police did not initially confirm this.

In Potsdam there were only connection problems in connection with the national disruption at the network operator Vodafone, which affected around 100,000 customers on Monday.

A Vodafone spokesman emphasized, however, that emergency calls would be forwarded via the networks of other operators in the event of a fault.

Accordingly, the emergency call by cell phone in the Prignitz district should have always been available, said the Telekom spokesman.

Only via landline was this not possible due to the break-in.
