Sellin (dpa / mv) - A few days after a larger steep slope at Sellin on the island of Rügen, there was another landslide on the steep coast there.

This became known on Monday during a visit by State Environment Minister Till Backhaus (SPD).

This smaller demolition and an old bunker, which is also in danger of slipping, could become a burden for the community, explained the minister after the visit.

Backhaus announced an examination of whether the country can help with so-called conversion funds.

The reason for the ministerial visit was a major landslide on the steep coast of the Baltic Sea on November 14th.

Here about 150 square meters of a steep slope with tall trees north of the pier fell onto the beach.

Similar crashes had occurred time and again in the past.

According to Mayor Reinhard Liedtke (non-party), the statics of this slope, which is about 30 meters high, had long been considered unsafe.

Originally planned maintenance measures failed due to responsibilities.

Most recently, the community wanted to replace trees with bushes in November, but that no longer happened.

Backhaus assured the community that Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wanted to continue to own this coastal forest.

The country will check with its own report to what extent it is dealing with an "active cliff".

The follow-up depended on the outcome.

Basically, however, autumn is the time when the cliffs break off, said Backhaus.

After the incident, the municipality had "done everything right" with its cordoning off measures in the area.

Since cracks can be seen on the blocked paths, further landslides must be expected.
