Enstone (AP) - Fernando Alonso just doesn't want to lose any time on his Formula 1 comeback.

The two-time world champion is already preparing for his return next year for Renault's Alpine F1 team at the age of 39.

As Renault's Formula 1 managing director Marcin Budkowski said, Alonso is even pushing the team to work on New Year's Day contrary to the usual practice.

The background is that the fundamentally new cars for the season after next (2022) can only be tested in the wind tunnel from next year.

The other day they were in the wind tunnel in Enstone at the headquarters of the racing team in Great Britain, said Budkowski according to the Formula 1 homepage.

Alonso asked them when they were allowed to test the 2022 car there.

They would have replied to the Asturian: from January 1st, but that normally they wouldn't do that.

“And he said, okay, we'll do this on January 1st.

I'll come here and help, "said Budkowski, praising him:" That shows Fernando's current motivation. "

Alonso is returning to the motorsport premier class after a two-year break.

The driver from Oviedo had celebrated his greatest successes with Renault: Alonso won the world championship title in the French car in 2005 and 2006.

In 2001 he entered the premier motorsport class.
