A new leader has been appointed by Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqmi).

The terrorist organization has also confirmed the death of its historic emir, Algerian Abdelmalek Droukdel, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.

The US-based company, which monitors jihadist sites, announced that Aqmi exhibited the body of its former leader in a video for the first time.

Abdelmalek Droukdel was killed during a French army operation in June in northern Mali.

Aqmi announced that it was the Algerian Abou Obeida Youssef al-Annabi who had been chosen to succeed Abdelmalek Droukdel.
