Bad Waldsee (dpa / lsw) - Experts warn against charging pedelec batteries in the apartment - but it still happens again and again.

"Many do not see the danger or are not aware of the danger," said Oliver Surbeck, district fire chief of the Ravensburg district, the German press agency.

A few days ago the battery of a pedelec exploded in an apartment in Bad Waldsee (Ravensburg district).

A 38-year-old resident and his 41-year-old wife were slightly injured.

The result was a fire, a window was broken, a door was torn from the lock and a roller shutter was pushed outwards.

The police estimated the damage at around 25,000 euros.

According to the police, the battery was connected to the charger of a multiple socket.

Other electrical devices were also supplied with electricity.

What the exact reason for the explosion was, can no longer be determined, said a police spokeswoman.

According to Surbeck, such incidents occur again and again.

If something happens in the apartment while charging, the fire brigade not only has to fight the fire, but often also has to save people.

E-bikes or pedelecs should therefore be charged in the garage or in the basement.

However, it could be difficult if you charge the battery in the underground car park.

This is not properly regulated in the garage ordinance of the state of Baden-Württemberg, said Surbeck.

More and more vehicles with batteries are being bought.

Before using it, people should definitely check to see if the device has been damaged, such as from a fall.

It is also important to read the instructions for use and take them seriously.
