  • A vast network of highly organized drug traffickers has been dismantled in Lyon.

  • The suspects had set up a real small business to take orders and deliver mainly herbal cannabis to homes.

  • A traffic that would have brought them hundreds of thousands of euros.

From there to saying that the company was well established, there is only one step.

This week, several people suspected of being involved in a vast drug trafficking in the metropolis were arrested in Lyon, putting an end to an investigation of several months carried out by the narcotics brigade of the departmental security of the Rhône.

According to the Lyon police who are communicating on this case this Friday, nine individuals in total have been indicted and imprisoned as part of the dismantling of this drug trafficking.

Investigations began in the fall of 2019 to trace the trail of traffickers, anchored in the 8th arrondissement and rampant in the Lyon region, in a very organized manner.

"Operating on the principle of" uberization "with a company provided with an acronym, a recognizable infographic and business cards", according to security, the suspects allowed their customers to order herbal cannabis and cocaine and then be delivered to homes.

A small business that turned out to be particularly juicy during the first confinement.

Hundreds of customers, huge profits

In June, eleven people suspected of being involved in this trafficking were arrested.

"With hundreds of customers identified, the traffickers have been able to generate profits of several hundred thousand euros, fruit of the estimated sale of nearly 80 kg of grass," Lyon police added on Friday.

During this first series of arrests, 8 kg of herbal cannabis and 82 grams of cocaine were seized as well as 15,000 euros in cash.

Nearly 16,000 euros were also seized for criminal assets, on a bank account, as well as a luxury watch and a vehicle.

During the searches, account books and weapons were also discovered.

Presented to the examining magistrate on June 11 and 12, the six main individuals suspected of being at the head of this pyramid network, were indicted and placed under arrest warrant.

Then, on November 16, as part of the investigation continuing under letter rogatory, three other men suspected of being usual deliverers of the goods, were in turn arrested.

They were also remanded in custody this week.
