Cottbus (dpa) - Because of the persistently uncertain Corona situation, the Brandenburg State Football Association announced the winter break ahead of schedule.

The association announced in a written statement that the interruption of gaming operations was extended to the end of the year on Friday evening.

"We do not fail to recognize the health and social importance of sport, but without further hesitation we do not want to base ourselves on any vague hopes and continue to wait for political decisions that we cannot influence," said FLB President Jens Kaden in a message after a video conference of the association's board .

The interruption affects amateur footballers from the association league for men and the regional league for women downwards.

It is not clear when these classes can be played again.

"The 're-start' is subject to the dependence on the further development of the pandemic, the political and official dispositions, the weather conditions and the organizational ability of the games," said the message.
