Ben Watkins
, the young chef who participated in the kitchens of
Masterchef Junior
in its US edition, has died this Monday after a year and a half fight against a
"rare form of cancer
.
"
"Our Ben is reunited with his mother after a year and a half of fighting cancer. He was and always will be the strongest person we know," his family said in a statement on Facebook.
His life, especially in recent years, was not easy.
According to the
BBC
, Ben went through
tragic circumstances
after losing his mother.
Her father murdered her three years ago and immediately committed suicide.
Since then, his maternal grandmother and uncle, Donna and Anthony Edwards have been caring for him.
"We are comforted to know that their suffering is finally over," the statement continues.
The television chef Gordon Ramsay, one of the judges of the program in which the young Ben appeared, has added this week to the
messages of affection by
posting one on his Twitter account.
"Your young life had many difficult turns, but you
always persevered," he
assured in a post.
Ramsay also highlighted his culinary skills, stating that "he was an
incredibly talented
home cook
and an even stronger young man."
"We lose a master of the kitchen", has pointed out.
