Resolution for immediate return of abductees at UN General Assembly adopted for 16 consecutive years November 19, 8:00

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the immediate return of abductees to North Korea for the 16th consecutive year, reiterating the concerns of the international community about North Korea's human rights violations.

This was submitted by Japan, the EU, the United States, etc. to the committee of the UN General Assembly, and on the 18th, the resolution was adopted without a vote with the support of the majority.

This is the 16th consecutive year that the resolution has been adopted.

The resolution expressed serious concern about North Korea's human rights violations, saying that it "condemns the systematic and widespread human rights violations over the years with the strongest words," and regarding the abduction issue, "accurately regarding the whereabouts of victims. We will inform the family of detailed information and urge the immediate return of the abductees. "

Tetsuya Kimura, the UN ambassador for society, said that Kayoko, the mother of Keiko Arimoto, and Shigeru, the father of Megumi Yokota, had died one after another. I think it's heartbreaking to imagine the grief of a family who has been working hard for more than a year. There is no time to spare, "he appealed to each country for cooperation in resolving the abduction issue.

Meanwhile, some countries, such as North Korea and China, have expressed opposition, with North Korea's UN Ambassador to the United Nations Kim Sung saying, "This is a political ploy and has nothing to do with the protection of human rights." As in the past, he has shown his willingness to reject the resolution.
