President Donald Trump's re-election campaign on Wednesday requested a partial recount of the presidential election results in Wisconsin, as part of seemingly impossible attempts to reverse the outcome that favored Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

Election officials in Wisconsin as well as in Georgia said a recount in those two states was unlikely to compensate Trump's loss.

The Wisconsin Election Commission said it would recount the votes in Milwaukee and Dan counties, two Democratic-dominated areas, after the Trump campaign paid $ 3 million, less than $ 7.9 million for the state's entire recount.

Biden won in Wisconsin by more than 20,000 votes, and received 49.5% of the vote to 48.8% for Trump.

And in Georgia state, a senior official said that state election officials are about to complete the recount by the end of Wednesday (local time).

Executive Director of the voting system in Georgia Gabriel Sterling said - in a video call with reporters - that the state will announce the results of the recount Thursday.

The Georgia state secretary, a Republican, also told CNN that he does not believe that the recount will change the outcome, which is Biden winning the state vote.

Courts reject lawsuits in which Trump alleges without evidence of election fraud, but opinion polls show that these allegations resonate at the political level, as nearly half of Republicans are believed to be correct, according to a Reuters / Ipsos poll.

Trump's refusal to acknowledge the results of the current November 3 elections impedes the smooth transition of a new administration, and complicates Biden's handling of the Coronavirus pandemic upon taking office on January 20.

Biden warned that the continued delay in recognizing him as a winner may mean that the United States' preparations will be delayed for "weeks and months" in distributing the Corona virus vaccine.

Badin won 306 electoral college votes to Trump's 232.

He won the direct popular vote by more than 5.8 million votes.

To remain in office, Trump needs to change results in at least 3 states, which is unprecedented, to reach the required quorum in the electoral college of 270 votes.

The president is also clinging to the hope that the manual recount, ordered by Georgia, will erase Biden’s 14,000-vote lead there, and questions the results in Michigan.

Deadline in December

The states face a deadline of December 8 to ratify the election results before the official vote of the electoral college on the 14th of the same month.

Congress is scheduled to count the electoral college votes on January 6, which is usually a formality.

But Trump supporters in the Senate and House of Representatives could object to the results, in a final attempt to deprive Biden of 270 votes and transfer the final decision to the House of Representatives.

A Reuters / Ipsos poll released on Wednesday showed that nearly half of Republicans believed Trump "rightly won" but that the election was stolen from him.

73% of those polled agreed that Biden had won, while 5% believed Trump had won.

But when asked specifically if Biden "won the right way," 52% of Republicans said Trump rightfully won, while only 29% said Biden won rightly.

Election officials from both parties across the United States said there was no evidence of vote tampering, and a federal review came to the same conclusion.

On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said it would consider a request by the Trump campaign to invalidate the thousands of mail-in ballots cast in Philadelphia and not carry the sender's data on the outer envelope.

At a court hearing on Tuesday, Judge Matthew Bran appeared skeptical of Trump's request to prevent officials from certifying Biden's victory in that state by more than 80,000 votes.
