November 18, 2020 "I wanted to share fifteen days of this hard trial with the other Umbrian sick people, comforting each other, without ever losing hope of healing with the help of the Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary".

Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, president of the CEI, said this to one of his collaborators, after leaving the Intensive Care of the Perugia hospital where he is still hospitalized due to Covid, but who will soon leave for a period of convalescence and rehabilitation at Gemelli From Rome.

This was reported by the newspaper of the diocese of Perugia, La Voce.

"I shared in the suffering the atmosphere of a family - continued the cardinal - that of the hospital of our city, that family that God gave me in helping me to live this serious illness with serenity. In this family I received appropriate and I thank all those who assisted me ".

"I made no other choices and before returning home I will spend a period of convalescence distant from my diocesan community - concluded the president of the CEI and archbishop of Perugia - but in the certainty of always having her in my heart as she always has me in her ".
