The Trump administration is sharply reducing the number of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This will happen before Trump leaves the presidency in January.

In Afghanistan, the United States draws home almost half of its troops.

The number of soldiers is reduced from 4,500 to 2,500 soldiers.

In mid-January, 2,000 soldiers are said to have left the country, says Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller.

In Iraq, another 500 soldiers will be called home, according to Donald Trump's order.

Republican Mitch McConell, also the Senate Majority Leader, has at the same time warned of the changes that will now be implemented. He calls the withdrawal a mistake and that it means giving extremists "a big propaganda victory".
