Anticimex, which is one of the major rat sanitizers, has until September this year carried out 1,670 so-called traditional rat sanitizers in Kronoberg and Kalmar counties.
This does not indicate a clear increase, but rat problems are now emerging in new areas.
- A few years ago, it was customers who did not behave who had problems with rats.
Now the problems can appear a bit everywhere, says Glenn Gustavsson who is a pest controller.
The rats move
Rats need three things to thrive: protection, food and water.
When Växjö is expanded and the center core changes with fewer shops and more food sales, the rats get reasons to move.
Careless waste management and food leftovers left in the city are spread by birds.
Then the rats get the smell of food and move closer to the center, says Glenn Gustavsson.
Important with cooperation
To combat rat problems, it is important to include several parties, according to the cleaners, such as property owners, traders and private individuals.
- It does not help if we clean up unless the property owner closes the holes.
Not even if the food is not removed.
