In Ethiopia, fighting continues in the Tigray region in the absence of independent witnesses.

Federal troops are seeking to take the region's capital and capture the leaders of the Tigrayan party that rules it, the TPLF.

In the other provinces of the federation, and in particular in the capital, concern is growing among Tigrayans, fearing to be arrested or to be the object of ethnic revenge.

A Tigrayan from Addis Ababa confides that he takes care not to speak Tigrinya when he is in the street.

Many Tigrayan employees and officials have been urged to stay at home.

Generally speaking, since the outbreak of the conflict in Tigray, they have remained discreet and hardly ever go out in the city.

It must be said that the Tigrayans are now the subject of special attention.

Last Friday, the National Human Rights Commission also asked civil aviation for explanations.

The Tigrayan passengers are in fact turned away when boarding Addis Ababa.

On the same day, police in the Amhara region asked the World Food Program for a list of its Tigrayan employees, which the UN categorically refused.

The head of security at the African Union headquarters - a Tigrayan - has been sacked at the request of the Ethiopian government.

And six Tigrayan journalists were arrested during the week.

On the side of the authorities, we want to be reassuring.

Asked about the issue, a senior Ethiopian diplomat explains that the TPLF having ruled the country for 30 years, its supporters are everywhere in the state apparatus and civil society.

We do not have a desire to ostracize the Tigrayans, but to dismantle the clandestine networks of the TPLF
