Million hits

The United States counted one million new cases of Covid-19 in less than a week, after it had crossed the threshold of 10 million cases of the epidemic on the ninth of November.

To reduce the spread of the epidemic, a lockdown will be imposed in Chicago from Monday.

As for New York - which was severely affected by the virus in the spring - it is seeking to confront a new epidemic wave by imposing additional measures on bars and restaurants, provided that schools remain open.

On Friday, President Donald Trump promised to start giving a vaccine to Americans "within a few weeks," but he still opposes the closure strongly, contrary to what is in place in several European countries.

The anti-virus efforts in the country are complicated by Trump's continued refusal to acknowledge his defeat in the presidential elections on November 3, which impedes the transfer of power to Joe Biden.

Focus and apprehensions

In Australia, a new outbreak of Covid-19 was discovered in the city of Adelaide, which had not witnessed large hotbeds of the virus for 7 months, according to what the authorities announced.

And the state of South Australia said that 4 cases were discovered in Adelaide on Sunday, and that the number of cases rose Monday to 17 as a result of the outbreak of the virus.

This is the largest outbreak of the virus in Adelaide since last April.

"We do not stop registering new cases," Nicolas Spurier, a local health sector official, told Australian channel ABC.

She added that the epicenter of the outbreak is linked to a hotel used to quarantine people returning from abroad, and one of the infected persons works in it.

City officials quickly took measures to contain the spread of the virus, and ordered hundreds of people to self-quarantine, and to close schools and businesses.

The development comes at a time when Australian officials are breathing a sigh of relief after they managed to bring the second wave of cases in Melbourne under control.

And they confirmed that this vaccine is 92% effective, days after the American company "Pfizer" and the German "Biontech" announced the development of a vaccine that is 90% effective.
