Afghan forces captured the mastermind of the November 2 attack on Kabul University where at least 22 people were killed, a senior official said on November 14.

The mastermind of

the Kabul University attack

has been arrested, Vice President Amrullah Saleh announced on his Facebook page.

The attack, in which the three attackers were killed, was planned by an insurgent named Adil, recruited by the Haqqani network, a group linked to the Taliban, to which multiple bloody attacks against foreign forces and civilians were attributed to the over the years.

A former student

Adil, a former Sharia student, was from Panjshir province, but his family lived in the outskirts of Kabul.

had been missing for three years and, according to rumors, had gone to train for the war

 ", according to Vice-President Amrullah Saleh, who adds that Adil confessed during his interrogation to having received weapons from the Haqqani network.

The attack was carried out in order to defame and put pressure on the government, as well as to make it look weak in front of the people,

 " Amrullah Saleh added.

Shortly after the attack, several senior officials accused the Taliban of being the perpetrators.

However, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the massacre, while the Taliban rejected Amrullah Saleh's accusations.
