08 November 2020Israeli Prime Minister and Donald Trump's close ally Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Joe Biden on his election victory, calling the US President-elect "a great friend of Israel".

"I am looking forward to working with both of us to further strengthen the special alliance between the US and Israel," Netanyahu tweeted, referring to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.



Netanyahu, who shows a photo of himself sitting next to Trump on his Twitter account, said he and Biden have had "a long and hot personal relationship for nearly 40 years," and, addressing the president-elect directly, tells him: "I know you as a great friend of Israel". 



The Israeli premier once described Trump as his country's strongest ally in the White House, and republican policies seduced his more conservative base.

Trump unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal - an agreement between Tehran and Netanyahu-hated world powers - and recognized Jerusalem as Israel's "undivided" capital.

He also supported Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights - stolen from Syria - and never criticized Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.
