  • Participatory democracy has been one of Jeanne Barseghian's priorities since the electoral campaign.

  • Now mayor of Strasbourg, she presented her views on this issue.

Two executive deliberations will take place on the subject, Monday in the city, Friday in the agglomeration.

  • Concretely, what will happen next?

Difficult to know, but the mayor and the president of the Eurometropolis announce debates, consultations on the city's web platform, reforms of neighborhood councils or young people etc.

The “climate, social and democratic” emergency.

From her first steps in the municipal election race, Jeanne Barseghian made citizen participation one of her priorities.

Four months after her election, the mayor of Strasbourg specified on Friday how she intended to proceed.

Two framework deliberations are scheduled on this subject.

First this Monday at the municipal council of the Alsatian capital, then Friday during that of the Eurometropolis.

"This should allow us to stimulate the citizen participation that we want", explains the president of the agglomeration Pia Imbs, referring to a round table on December 2 "on 5G and digital uses".

"We want more open, more dynamic systems"

As with the old municipal team, the platform on the city's website Participant.strasbourg.eu is open to contributions.

"We also want to create spaces for discussion in the city", continues Jeanne Barseghian.

The city council also mentions “citizens 'conferences” and does not exclude launching “citizens' votes” to submit a question of public interest to citizens.

Other small novelties, the ecologist would like a reform of neighborhood councils or young people.

At least this is a line of study that the new Council for Citizen Participation has launched, which recently met for the first time.

"We want more open, more dynamic systems," insists the mayor of Strasbourg without denying that her socialist predecessor Roland Ries had already acted in this direction.

In particular with the creation of participatory budgets, which allow everyone to submit their projects to municipal funding.

"We will go towards a more refined selection of files and not a display," concludes Jeanne Barseghian in a small pique.
