The evacuation accommodation opened in mid-April and had a maximum of seven covid-infected elderly residents there at the same time.

But since the beginning of August, the accommodation in Björkenäs outside Kalmar has been empty - until last week.

- We started it up again as we had a care recipient who had confirmed covid last week.

During this week, it has been filled with two more, one of which is from another municipality, says Mattias Ask, head of the care administration Kalmar municipality.

"Could start up in a couple of hours"

By separating the people who tested positive for covid-19 from other care recipients and staff in the home care service and special housing, they want to reduce the spread of infection in the particularly fragile group.

According to Mattias Ask, it was quick to start the business when a newly confirmed case appeared in a special accommodation:

- We could start up in a couple of hours, he says.

Has room for a maximum of 16 people

Right now there is the possibility to receive 4-6 care recipients at the same time, but is also prepared to scale up step by step.

A maximum of 16 care recipients can live in the evacuation accommodation.

- If you go back and look at the spring until the summer, there were on average four people who were at the evacuation accommodation at the same time.

At the moment, we do not think it goes higher than that.

But we do not know for sure, so we are prepared to switch up if the need arises, says Mattias Ask.

Can receive from other municipalities

Kalmar municipality is alone in an evacuation accommodation in the area.

Can you receive infections from other municipalities?

- If there should be a need and we have space, we take that dialogue, but we must also maintain preparedness to receive care recipients from our municipality.

But I know that there are more municipalities that have plans for evacuation housing, says Mattias Ask.

All care recipients who receive a positive test result for covid-19 are moved to the evacuation accommodation.

At present, a total of two care recipients from Kalmar municipality are currently confirmed with covid.
