74 immigrants drowned off the coast of Libya

The United Nations' International Migration Organization said at least 74 migrants drowned during a boat capsizing off the coast of Libya.

The organization said that the sinking of the boat occurred today, Thursday, off the coast of Khums in Libya.

The boat was reported to be carrying more than 120 people.

47 people were rescued and taken to land by the coast guard and fishermen, and 31 bodies were recovered.

According to the organization, the accident is the latest in a series of disasters in which at least eight other boats have sunk in the Mediterranean since October 1.
