In an interview with France 24, Eddie Komboïgo, presidential candidate for November 22 in Burkina Faso and president of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), the party of former President Blaise Compaoré, affirms that he feels in a position to win the ballot.

He denies being the candidate of Blaise Compaoré, affirming that it is on the contrary the outgoing president, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, who embodies the continuity with the 27 years in power of Blaise Compaoré.

"I am a grassroots activist, who has made his normal course," he says on France 24. "I believe that the CDP has its chances of winning this election".

Eddie Komboïgo also accuses the current head of state, who is seeking a second term, of having allowed jihadist groups to enter the country and of being responsible for the deterioration in security.

He believes that the lack of anticipation in the face of this threat has resulted in plunging the country into turmoil, with dramatic economic and social effects.

The CDP president suggests that it is better to negotiate with terrorist groups, rather than fight them, in order to end the cycle of violence and allow the country to move forward.

"Burkina Faso cannot withstand five years of war," he said.

"We must move towards intelligent diplomacy".

Finally, Eddie Komboïgo calls for the return to the country of Blaise Compaoré, exiled in Ivory Coast, since his fall in 2014, noting that such a prospect was only recently mentioned by President Kaboré and this, for electoral reasons. , according to him.

He says the former head of state will, if he returns, answer for his actions, but before "transitional justice".

"We must allow him to return as quickly as possible and organize the instances of serious reconciliation," he said.
