A proposal for an implementation plan between Kiruna municipality and LKAB on how Kiruna church will be moved has now been prepared.

Municipal councilor Gunnar Selberg (C) believes that there are no obstacles in the detailed plan produced for the work of moving the church in accordance with LKAB's and Jukkasjärvi parish's plans to move the church to an area next to the city's new center.

- That the church is being moved is now clear and it will be placed at the cemetery, says Gunnar Selberg (C), municipal councilor in Kiruna.

From mining town park to mining industrial area

The purpose of the new detailed plans is for LKAB to be able to continue with mining in Kiruna.

The various areas in the community that are affected by the mine's expansion will gradually change from the current operations to first a mining town park, which is a buffer zone between the mine and the community, and then move to a mining industry area.
