Paris Peace Forum: $ 500 million more for access to vaccines

During the Paris Peace Forum, several countries and actors announced financial contributions amounting to $ 500 million for the ACT program launched by the WHO, to guarantee equitable access to all countries for treatment and vaccines against Covid-19.

Last April, WHO, supported by France, the European Commission and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, launched the ACT accelerator, a framework for international collaboration aimed at ensuring that all countries in the world have equitable access to treatment. , vaccines and diagnostics against Covid 19.

In the minds of the initiators of this mechanism, the fight against the pandemic is everyone's business, and national egoisms must be put aside.

It is therefore a matter of pooling forces to ensure that by the end of 2021, 500 million tests, 245 million treatments and two billion vaccines are available and distributed fairly across the planet.

To do this, the WHO estimates that a global financial effort of around $ 38 billion would be needed.

Five hundred million dollars have just been pledged at the Paris Forum.

One hundred million euros on the French side, 100 more from the European Commission, 50 million euros from Spain.

As for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, very committed to this program, it is adding an additional seventy million dollars to the common pot.

Finally, Great Britain will also make a similar gesture.

Sums in addition to the four billion dollars already promised.
