The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, writes in a message sent to the Minister of Defense, Lorenzo Guerini, also in memory of the Nassiriya massacre 17 years ago.



"Our country is an integral part and promoter of the international community - writes the Head of State - which is constantly committed to the pacification and stabilization of geographical areas troubled by conflicts and to counteract all forms of terrorism, aware that the precious good of freedom it must be conquered day after day, all together, because it cannot be achieved without full sharing among peoples ", writes the Head of State.

"The military and civilians who operate with an admirable spirit of service in peace and humanitarian missions, made even more difficult by the serious pandemic that now afflicts global society, are tangible proof of the sense of responsibility and dedication to the common good", of ce again the President of the Republic. "This precious moment of remembrance - underlines Mattarella forcefully - is a source of reflection and a renewed commitment to solidarity, in correspondence with the moral bond represented by those who have fallen." Minister Guerini


The morning began with the Minister of Defense Guerini who placed a laurel wreath at the Altare della Patria while playing the notes of the Silence.

"On this solemn anniversary, I wish to address my first, moving thought to all the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives or been wounded in the various theaters in which Italy is called to work to contribute to international stability and security".

Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini writes this in the message for the "Day of Remembrance of the Military and Civilian Fallen in International Peace Missions", established by the law of 12 November 2009 to coincide with the anniversary of the Nassiriya attack, in which they lost life 19 compatriots, 17 soldiers and two civilians.
