The relocation of the church and especially the area around the church is perhaps considered the most difficult part of the urban transformation.

It is not just a large building in the form of Kiruna church that will be moved to a new location.

There is also a chapel with a columbarium with 3,000 burial sites and a memorial grove.

Therefore, there are difficult ethical issues that must be resolved before the settlement of the area begins.

- Moving the graves is actually a violation of the peace of the grave, but for special reasons you have the right to move urns and the city move is one such reason, says Tommy Stridsman, property and cemetery manager at Kiruna pastorate.

Build a new crematorium

There is also a crematorium in the area that will be affected by the social transformation, which will be demolished.

- We will build a new crematorium with a chapel at the church's new location, says Tommy Stridsman.
