November 12, 2020 Pope Francis phones Joe Biden - the first Catholic US president after John Fitzgerald Kennedy - to congratulate him.

"The president-elect thanked the Pontiff for his blessings and congratulations and expressed his appreciation for His Holiness's leadership in promoting peace, reconciliation and the common bonds of humanity around the world," reads the note from the Biden staff.



Biden expressed his "desire to work together on the basis of common values", in recognition "of the dignity and equality of all mankind, the care of marginalized people and the poor, the fight against climate change and the reception and integration of migrants and refugees in all communities ".



"The president-elect has expressed a desire to work together on the basis of a shared belief in the dignity and equality of all humanity," reads the tweet posted by Joe Biden's staff.

Pope Francis and Biden met in April 2016.
