The development and opening up of Pudong is an “entrepreneurship” in Shanghai. In the past 30 years, it has grown from nothing to the tip, from a piece of rice paddy farmland to a modern new city, and one landmark after another has been born. These landmarks hide our memories of time. , Is also the witness of Pudong era.

141. Pudong Development "One Is One"

On April 18, 1990, after the Party Central Committee and the State Council announced the development and opening of Pudong, Shanghai began preparations in full swing.

After half a month, the Pudong Development Office was officially established on No. 141.

That year, the tallest building in Pudong was only a few tens of meters, and Lujiazui was full of mud roads.

Interestingly, No. 141 was not called "141" at the earliest.

The name of the house number that year was also the result of everyone's discussion. Some people suggested "8", "6", "9" and other good numbers.

However, a comrade at the scene said after serious consideration: "Pudong Development is one, two is two, one step at a time, to seek truth from facts, why not use the homophony of'one is one' and set it as Pudong Avenue No. 141?" Everyone agreed with a proposal.

Today, "No. 141" has become the historical totem and spiritual belief of Pudong development, inspiring the courage and strength of generations of Pudong people to advance and innovate.

Nanpu Bridge, 7 minutes across the Shanghai Mother River

The Nanpu Bridge was officially opened to traffic on December 1, 1991.

Using the most advanced composite beam cable-stayed bridge technology at the time, the main bridge crossed the river with a span of 423 meters and was the third cable-stayed bridge in the world that year.

Since then, it only takes 7 minutes to cross the bridge from Pudong to Puxi.

This "7-minute" river crossing speed created conditions for accelerating the development and construction of Pudong, and also opened the prelude to the rapid development of Shanghai's economic society and urban construction since the 1990s.

The four big red characters of "Nanpu Bridge" were inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping.

In the early 1990s, when Deng Xiaoping visited Shanghai, he said, "Shanghai is our trump card, and building Shanghai is a shortcut."

To develop Pudong, the first step is to start with infrastructure, and the "first battle" is to erect the bridge across the river.

Since then, more than a dozen bridges and more than a dozen tunnels have crossed the river, and many rail transit lines such as Line 2, Line 9, and Line 13 have been operating across the river... On average, there is one river crossing facility, bridge, The two banks of the Huangpu River are closely connected by tunnels, subways, and ferries.

Oriental Pearl Tower, refreshing the city skyline

At a height of 468 meters, it is not only the tallest building ever built in Shanghai before the 1990s, but also one of Pudong’s first major wonders to be listed as the “highest in the world”; as the first drawing of the Shanghai skyline, the “Pearl of the Orient” Like a string of gems falling from the sky, shining with a dazzling light...

Since then, high-rise skyscrapers in Pudong have sprung up like mushrooms, the 420.5-meter Jin Mao Tower, the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center, and the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, constantly setting new records, giving "Lujiazui" as the spokesperson of the city. Identification function.

At present, the Lujiazui Financial City area has become one of the areas with the highest building economic density in the world. More than 260 commercial and office buildings of various types have been built, and 100 million tax buildings have exceeded 100.

At the critical moment when the construction of Shanghai's international financial center is entering the sprint period, the heads of many foreign investment institutions believe that the epidemic has not affected the pace of China's financial reform and opening up. They all hope to find more opportunities for cooperation in Lujiazui.

Dongfang Shenniu, science and technology innovation board sounded gongs to open the market

In 1997, the Shanghai Stock Exchange moved to the Shanghai Securities Building, and it has since been closely linked to the development and opening of this land.

The horns of the "Oriental God Bull" placed in front of the door face up, implying that the stock market is thriving.

Immediately afterwards, a large number of financial industry partners, including Shanghai Futures Exchange, China Financial Futures Exchange, China Foreign Exchange Trading Center, and Shanghai Equity Custody Trading Center, also gathered in Pudong.

Riding on the financial tide, Pudong is advancing all the way.

Today, Pudong has become one of the regions with the most abundant financial factor markets, the most concentrated financial institutions, and the most active financial transactions in the world.

The Shanghai Futures Exchange's commodity futures and options trading volume ranks first in the world, the Shanghai Stock Exchange stock market total market value and IPO financing volume rank fourth in the world, and the Shanghai Energy Exchange's daily average crude oil futures trading volume ranks third in the world. "Shanghai Gold", "Shanghai Silver" and other international pricing power and influence continue to increase...

In June 2019, the science and technology innovation board sounded gongs to open the market, announcing the beginning of a new journey.

It shoulders the mission of leading the economic innovation-driven transformation, and carries the original intention of the reform of the basic system of the capital market.

By the end of 2019, 70 companies have successfully listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board.

Soon, the Shanghai Stock Exchange will once again move into the "new home". The three towers are composed of "products", forming a "financial gate" in the air, and a new "cow" is "brought" at the door of the new home. With the bull's head facing upwards, the aura is...

Shanghai Light Source, the most important instrument of the country

In April 2009, the "Shanghai Light Source", one of China’s largest scientific projects, was officially opened to the public. At first glance, this seems to be a lighting-related project, but the light here is not used to create light visible to our naked eyes, but to emit Electromagnetic waves of different wavelengths from far infrared to hard X-rays.

As a "national weight", Shanghai Light Source has produced a number of internationally influential research results in the frontier basic research and high-tech research and development fields of life science, materials science, chemistry, energy and environmental science, etc.

For many years, Shanghai Light Source has been turned on for about 7,000 hours a year, of which the experimental light supply is about 5,500 hours.

Among the world’s top ten pharmaceutical companies, Novartis, Roche, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, etc. have used the large amount of structural data obtained by Shanghai Light Source to conduct new drug research and development. Most of the biomedical companies gathered in Shanghai Zhangjiang area have become users of Shanghai Light Source. An industrial cluster of scientific and technological services for pharmaceutical companies has been formed.

At present, Shanghai Light Source has 15 beamline stations in daily operation. The 16 advanced beamline stations under construction will all be completed in 2021. By then, Shanghai Light Source will become a synchrotron radiation laboratory with important international influence.

Unmanned terminal, the epitome of Shanghai shipping development

In December 2017, the world's largest single automated intelligent terminal and the world's most comprehensively automated terminal, the fourth phase of Yangshan Port, officially opened.

With a 2,350-meter shoreline, towering quay bridges, neat AGV guided vehicles, and fully automatic rail cranes at the rear, the world’s largest "unmanned dock" is spectacular.

The "record" of the fourth phase of Yangshan's automated terminal is the epitome of the development of Shanghai's shipping industry. As of October this year, Shanghai Port's container throughput exceeded 4 million TEU (International Standard Units) in a single month for the first time.

This unknown island with only more than 3,000 people has now transformed into the world's largest automated container terminal, building Shanghai's "hard core" strength as an international shipping center.

Four pavilions on one axis, "World Club Living Room"

From an old industrial zone to a well-known shanty town, it has been transformed into a vibrant "world meeting room". The 2010 Shanghai World Expo has made the whole area "reborn".

After the World Expo, the "one axis and four pavilions" were permanently retained and developed into the World Expo Source, China Art Palace, World Expo Exhibition Hall, World Expo Center and Mercedes-Benz Cultural Center.

Since then, the start of important projects such as the World Expo Cultural Park and the Shanghai Grand Opera House also echoes the new functional positioning of the Expo area.

Building the main line around the "World Meeting Room", the World Expo Cultural Park will meet with citizens and tourists next year.

This will become the largest riverside park in the core area of Shanghai Central City, combining the built Houtan Wetland Park, some reserved venues for the Expo, the Grand Opera House, the Greenhouse Garden, and the International Equestrian Center. The road area is equivalent to eight Yan'an Central Greenbelts.

Large domestic aircraft base, China’s blue sky dream

Drive along the Yingbin Expressway through Pudong Airport Terminal 2, and then turn from Lianggang Highway to No. 919 Shangfei Road. A row of magnificent exhaust plants comes into view. This is the Pudong Base of COMAC's General Assembly Manufacturing Center. .

On November 2, 2015, the first C919 large passenger aircraft independently developed by China officially rolled off the production line at the Shanghai Pudong base plant.

Two years later, on May 5th, with the roar of the engine, the first C919 large passenger plane took off from Pudong International Airport and soared into the sky. After 79 minutes, it successfully completed its mission and landed.

After nine years of scientific research, numerous tests and technical commissioning, the blue sky once again has the shadow of China's domestically produced large aircraft, which marks China's entry into the ranks of the few countries that have the ability to develop large passenger aircraft.

In May 2018, the Shanghai Municipal Government and COMAC signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement to jointly promote the "One Valley, One Park", build an aviation industrial park around the large aircraft assembly base, accelerate the gathering of upstream and downstream assembly enterprises, and form a convenient and Green supply chain to create a world-class aviation industry cluster.

In Shanghai, where is the next growth pole for opening up?

The answer must be Lingang.

On August 20, 2019, the Lingang New Area of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone was inaugurated.

This is not a simple area expansion, but a fundamental institutional innovation. It is a re-upgrade of deepening reform and opening up. It will not only promote high-quality domestic economic development, but will also inject confidence and vitality into the development of the world economy.

In the past year, Lingang has signed a total of 358 projects, with a total investment of more than 270 billion yuan. Domestically produced large aircraft, Tesla, the world’s top scientists’ forum, and more and more "super" projects are thriving in Lingang. .

This speed is not "the only" in Shanghai, but it can be called a "miracle" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Companies in the new area have resumed work and production early. The Tesla Model 3 made in China has been exported to the European market. Major projects have started construction one after another... Various signs indicate that the Lingang New Area has already resumed its development rhythm and bucked the trend and ran out of reform and innovation Acceleration.

Backed by the Yangtze River and facing the Pacific Ocean, a "city of the future" is rising from the ground, and new explorations are kicking off here.
