  • Opponents in the last municipal elections, Stéphane Baly (EELV) and Violette Spillebout (LREM) denounce Martine Aubry's management of the health crisis.

  • More than the substance, the municipal opposition denounces a solitary method without consultation with them.

  • Critics that made the municipal majority react.

In Lille, even in times of health crisis, the sacred union does not exist.

In recent days, the municipal opposition, on all sides, has been united against the municipal management of the health crisis.

More than the substance, it is above all the method used by Martine Aubry (PS) that poses a problem for them.

Opponents during the last municipal elections, Stéphane Baly (EELV) and Violette Spillebout (LREM) agree that the mayor of Lille does not involve them in decisions related to the pandemic.

If a meeting of group leaders does take place every Friday evening by videoconference, it does not satisfy the opposition.

“It's top-down information.

We are just informed of the decisions that were taken by the municipal majority.

This is not at all our conception of local democracy ", regrets Violette Spillebout at the head of the group" Breathe in Lille "which deplores an institutional functioning with decisions taken" with the prefect and the ARS but without going further. ".

"Being mayor of Lille does not mean having the answer to all the solutions"

Same regret on the side of Stéphane Baly.

At the head of the Lille Verte group, the elected ecologist has just called for the creation of an enlarged consultation committee to manage the health crisis at the local level, like what is already being done in other cities such as Grenoble or Bordeaux.

“Being mayor of Lille does not mean having answers to all the solutions.

I think we need to bring all the Republican political parties to the table, even those which are not represented on the municipal council, but also the intermediary bodies and the living forces of the city.

We have more ideas and solutions at twenty rather than two.

When measures are decided collectively, they are much more easily accepted ”.

The municipal majority is justified on its management in a press release

Faced with these criticisms, the municipal majority reacted in a press release published on November 9.

The group Lille in common, sustainable and united first deplores a controversy which suggests "that the actions carried out and the solutions applied, would be carried out in isolation before recalling the actions carried out since the end of August".

Before explaining the management of the crisis at the local level.

“The new municipal team always acts with as much determination in conjunction with the City's partners.

More particularly, Anne Goffard, virologist and new deputy mayor delegated to the pandemic risk leads each week with the elected officials concerned a decision-making crisis unit, and with the municipal services an operational crisis unit ”.

The majority also recall the work carried out in consultation with the prefecture, the CHU, the ARS, the mayor and five assistants responsible for managing the various aspects of this crisis in mine with the people of Lille.

We deplore the instrumentalisation that some are trying to do with the health crisis.

We will not let major issues, linked to the health crisis, but also eco and social issues, such as those included in our municipal program #cestdit #autravail #Lille pic.twitter.com/1ejhvsk9Ei

The opposition wants more consultation with civil society

Apparently, therefore, there is no question of changing the method.

To the chagrin of Violette Spillebout who already called for a broad consultation on the crisis last April.

“To say that we are in the controversy because we are proposing another method is to be in the caricature.

This surprises me because I imagined that the current majority, having won with only 227 votes in advance (over Lille Verte) in difficult conditions in the middle of a major health crisis, would have heard the need for more democracy, more consultation.

60% of Lille did not vote for Martine Aubry.

And with Lille Verte, we also represent Lille.

We want these voices to be heard more ”.

So, to make themselves heard, the opposition decided to mobilize.

“We have already sent a number of proposals.

We are going to meet the Lille players and we will organize ourselves in the coming days to build solutions with them, ”says Stéphane Baly.

The idea of associating civil society with the Lille municipal consultation council (CCC) made up of representatives of associations is thus in the pipeline.

It remains to convince Martine Aubry.

“We are waiting for the meeting this Friday evening to see what will be decided.

Perhaps the city will change its mind and take into account the opinion of the opposition, ”hopes the walker Violette Spillebout who does not rule out working seriously on the subject with Stéphane Baly and Lille Verte in the event of a refusal. of the majority.

Proof that the health crisis can sometimes succeed in overcoming certain political divisions.
