The rebuilding of Helsingborg's hospital has become a lengthy and expensive process.

In September, 13 doctors and business managers went out and demanded that the renovation be stopped.

Region Skåne had given a new announcement that construction would continue for another eight years.

The managers said that the situation at the hospital with noise and relocations is unsustainable for both them and the patients.

Instead, they suggested investing in building a brand new hospital in another location in Helsingborg.

Region Skåne, together with the city of Helsingborg, is now investigating which of the alternatives to invest in - continued rebuilding or new construction.

- We look at the current area first and foremost, but then we make an assessment with other alternatives, says Stefan Lamme (M), regional councilor and chairman of the committee for strategic healthcare investments.

Arable land can become a hospital area

According to Stefan Lamme, Östra Ramlösa is an area that could be relevant for a new hospital construction.

- There are not many other plots for this, but there is a field today.

And it is not too far from the city, he says.

But building a completely new hospital is not something the regional council is positive about.

- It will probably be much more expensive than finishing the current hospital.

I think we throw too much money into the lake, says Stefan Lamme (M).
