Since last Friday, 35 new deaths with confirmed covid-19 have been reported, according to the Public Health Agency's statistics.

A total of 162,240 people have been confirmed infected with covid-19 in Sweden.

The curves over the number of infected have pointed upwards in recent weeks.

The cases of covid-19 in the age group 20-59 increase the most, among the older age groups the same rapid increase is not seen.

Deaths are expected to increase

The number of people in need of intensive care is also increasing.

A total of 130 people with covid-19 receive intensive care and about 1000 people receive hospital care.

- It is a clear trend break we see, says the Public Health Agency's unit manager Sara Byfors at today's press conference about the virus' development.

Deaths are also expected to increase in the coming weeks.

- Like other curves, this one goes up, not so steep yet.

But it will be filled with individuals unfortunately, says Sara Byfors.

The National Board of Health and Welfare's crisis preparedness manager Johanna Sandwall says that twelve regions are currently in normal mode and nine in staff mode or reinforcement mode.

- All regions are pessimistic about the future and report on expected deterioration of the situation in the short and long term, says Johanna Sandwall.

Local councils in three new regions

As a result of the increased spread of infection, local councils are now being introduced in three more regions: Kalmar, Västerbotten and Norrbotten.

Like other local councils, these are about avoiding contact with others than those you live with and avoiding indoor environments such as shops, shopping centers and museums.

In addition to this, Norrbotten and Västerbotten also want to introduce a council to refrain from unnecessary travel within and outside the two regions.
