A police official was shot and wounded in the night from Monday to Tuesday as he returned to his home in Sainte Anne d'Evenos, in the Var.

According to information gathered by Europe 1, the assailant attempted to steal his car and shot twice in his direction.

A police official was shot in front of his home on the night of Monday to Tuesday.

According to information collected by Europe 1, the policeman, married and father of a family, is stationed at the La Seyne-sur-Mer police station and was assaulted while returning home, in Sainte Anne d'Evenos, in the Var, after his service.

The assailant allegedly attempted to steal his car and pulled out a handgun before shooting twice in his direction.

The official would then have replied with his service weapon.

The suspect then managed to escape, and it is not known if the suspect was also injured.

Hit by bullet, the policeman was hospitalized in Toulon but his life would not be in danger. 

According to the very first elements of the investigation, nothing indicates that this policeman then dressed in civilian clothes and off duty, was attacked because of his profession.

The theft of his car seems to be the only motive for the moment.

The La Valette du-Var gendarmerie was responsible for the investigation and the investigations are continuing on Tuesday.
