  • To fight against the phenomenon of theft, the mayor of Paris is starting to deploy bicycle stations.

  • These paid car parks are secure and have terminals for electric bikes.

  • "We want to develop a number of solutions for the secure parking of bicycles," says David Belliard, transport assistant to Anne Hidalgo.

It will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From this Tuesday, a bike station located at 22, rue de l'Arrivée, in the 15th arrondissement, near the Montparnasse station, will allow Parisians and Ile-de-France residents to park their bikes. .

Objective: fight against the phenomenon of theft.

"We want to develop these bicycle stations on major nodes, such as stations, so that users can have secure parking", specifies David Belliard, deputy in charge of transport for Anne Hidalgo, who answered questions from

20 Minutes .

After the Gare de Lyon, it is the second velostation in Paris.

Why is this system currently being developed in the capital?

We are continuing our policy of supporting the bikes that we want as an alternative to other modes of mobility, such as the private car.

To do this, there is the issue of secure cycle paths, which we continue to deploy.

But there is also the entire cycling ecosystem that we must develop and in particular the question of parking.

Today, the fear of having your bike stolen is the first obstacle to its use.

We therefore wish to develop a certain number of solutions for the secure parking of bicycles.

Why open this larger velostation precisely at Montparnasse station?

It is one of the devices that we want to put in place.

In Paris, there are arches on the surface, véloboxes and therefore now these bicycle stations in places, which are both transit and which allow intermodality, with trains and subways.

This 920 m2 bicycle station will have 375 spaces (202 at Gare de Lyon), 25 electrified for electrically assisted bicycles.

And novelty, there will be 12 spaces for cargo bikes, of which we can see a real development with several uses, whether they are family but also in terms of urban logistics.

We want to support this development.

An average of 500 bikes are estimated to be stolen each month in Paris.

Will these bicycle stations help curb the phenomenon?

This is part of the answer.

We want to develop these bicycle stations on major nodes, such as stations, so that users can have secure parking.

Other bicycle stations are under study.

There are also véloboxes.

Fifty will be deployed by the end of the year.

It is essential to be able to secure the parking of bicycles.

What are the prices of such a system?

You have to subscribe.

There are several formulas: Ten euros per me, 25 euros per quarter or 75 euros per year.

Then, we have a magnetic badge that allows access to the bicycle station as a parking lot.

It is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. It is monitored, secure with regular rounds.

Our dossier on Paris

On the development of cycling in Paris, where is the deployment of coronapistes?

We continue.

For example, the rue de la Chapelle track (18th arrondissement) has just been opened to the public.

There are about ten additional kilometers compared to what had been planned in the spring.

Ultimately, we will have 60 kilometers of coronapistes.

Now, the challenge is to make them sustainable.

We are committed to it with Anne Hidalgo.

To do this, we now need government support, on funding and the legal framework.
