US President Donald Trump announced the dismissal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper, on Monday, to be succeeded by Christopher Miller, director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center.

"Chris will do a great job. Mark Esper has been fired. I thank him for his work," Trump wrote on Twitter.

This comes two days after Trump was declared defeated by Democrat Joe Biden in the presidential election.
