"To control the ceasefire and military operations in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is deployed in the amount of 1,960 military personnel," TASS reports.

In addition, the contingent includes 90 armored personnel carriers and 380 units of automobile and special equipment.

The ministry said that the peacekeepers were transported by Il-76 planes from the Ulyanovsk airfield.

The core of the contingent will be subdivisions of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District.

The leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan previously signed a ceasefire statement in Karabakh. 

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, it starts on November 10 at 00:00 Moscow time.

The head of state also said that Russian peacekeepers would be deployed in the region.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has stated that Turkey will also take part in peacekeeping activities in Karabakh.
