Minutes after a similar announcement from the Armenian Prime Minister, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan for a "total ceasefire" of the fighting for the Nagorno-Karabakh region, in force since 9 p.m. UT this Monday.

After six weeks of fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a full ceasefire agreement.

The announcement comes as the Azerbaijani forces continued to advance in the independence enclave.

Baku said on Sunday that it had taken control of the strategic city of Shusha, located on the main road connecting the self-proclaimed republic to Armenia, which Nikol Pachinian denied.
