Former President George W. Bush first made a phone call to
President-elect Joe Biden
and his running mate Kamala Harris.
George W. Bush congratulated them both on their victory.
He told them that this election took place on a “
fundamentally regular
” basis, reports our correspondent in San Francisco,
Eric de Salve
.
"
I know Joe Biden is a good man
," said the former Republican president in a statement.
"
He won his chance to lead and bring the country together
."
Then Bush also delivers a word of congratulations to Donald Trump.
“
His campaign fought well,
” he said.
Donald Trump, Bush adds, has the right to initiate legal proceedings, but the "
result is clear
."
As we know, the Bush and Trump clans hate each other.
George W. Bush represents a traditional, very minority Republican party.
There is therefore little chance that his message will have a strong impact within the party which is today that of Donald Trump.
No major Republican executive has conceded defeat
Apart from maverick Mitt Romney, no leading Republican executive has yet recognized the defeat of Trump, who remains reclusive in the White House and only comes out for his rounds of golf.
According to the American media,
his son-in-law Jared Kushner
tried to convince him to concede his defeat but nothing helped.
On Twitter, Donald Trump continues to claim that the election was stolen from him against all mathematical evidence.
The influential Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also encouraged this Sunday Trump to continue to refuse his defeat and to "
fight
" in court to assert his rights.
"
We'll work with Biden if he wins, but Trump hasn't lost,
" he said on Fox News, declining the news of the Democrat's victory made the day before by the mainstream media over the basis of the almost complete results of the count.
"
There is a lot of shenanigans, a lot of things that deserve to be examined,
" assured Lindsey Graham, echoing the accusations of "fraud" launched by Donald Trump, to whom he is close.
The elected, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, assured to have evidence of the vote of six people who died in Pennsylvania and mentioned "
computer systems that have turned Republican votes into Democrats in Michigan
."
