In an effort to encourage private companies to explore space resources, the bipartisan parliamentary federation has decided to put together a bill recognizing ownership of minerals and other substances collected on the moon by companies and submit it to the current Diet.

Regarding resource exploration in space, not only space agencies in each country but also private companies are competing to explore the possibility of new resource supply sources.

Under these circumstances, the bipartisan parliamentary federation has put together a bill that stipulates the mechanism and rights of space development in an attempt to support the entry of Japanese companies.

Specifically, in order for private companies to conduct resource exploration and development in space, it is necessary to obtain a national permit, and then the ownership of resources such as minerals and water collected on the moon is recognized. It also includes that the government provides technical advice and information to companies.

According to the Parliamentary Union, there are no international rules regarding the handling of resources in outer space, and each country is proceeding with legislation.

The Parliamentary League wants to submit a bill to the current parliament and aim for its enactment.
