The Palestinian Authority and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu preferred to be patient in congratulating the Democratic candidate for the US presidency, Joe Biden, for his victory, but the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Ismail Haniyeh demanded that he back off the "deal of the century" and abolish the status of occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which witnessed demonstrations demanding Netanyahu To leave after the loss of Donald Trump.

There has been no reaction yet from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after the major television networks announced Biden's victory in the US presidential elections on Saturday, as did Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As for Haniyeh, he said in a statement, "We call on the elected administration to retreat from the so-called deal of the century, to cancel the decision to consider Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation, and to transfer the US embassy to it in a way that violates all international positions and decisions."

Haniyeh called on President-elect Biden, "for a historic correction of the course of US policies unjust to our people, which made the United States a partner in injustice and aggression, and damaged the stability situation in the region and the world, and prevented the American ability to be a central party in resolving conflicts.

"Our Palestinian people have suffered over the past decades from the bias of American administrations in favor of the occupation, and President Trump and his administration have been the most extreme in supporting the occupation at the expense of Palestinian national rights," he added.

And he called for "ending all decisions related to the attempts to liquidate the refugee issue, especially reducing support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in an attempt to end it."

Haniyeh called on the US administration to "respect the will of the Palestinian people, their democratic options and their struggle path, as well as stop exerting pressure on the countries and peoples of the region to impose normalization with the occupation."

For his part, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said, "We are happy with the departure of the criminal Trump, and we will judge Biden by his positions on the Palestinian issue."

For her part, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hanan Ashrawi, ruled out a "radical shift in American policy," and said, "But we at least expect that Trump's dangerous destructive policies will stop completely."

Ashrawi added, "The time has come to change course ... they should change course and deal with the Palestinian issue on the basis of legitimacy, equality and justice, and not on the basis of responding to the special interests of pro-Israel pressure groups or whatever."

Israeli celebrations

Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis celebrated on Saturday announcing Biden's election victory over his Republican rival, Donald Trump.

The Jerusalem Post reported on its website that thousands of demonstrators against Netanyahu in Jerusalem celebrated Biden’s victory, and raised banners reading "Now is your turn to leave," in reference to Netanyahu.

Trump is one of Netanyahu's most prominent allies, and he helped him a lot in overcoming his internal crises that almost toppled him in recent months.

For its part, the "Black Banners" movement, which organizes the demonstrations against Netanyahu, said that the United States managed to "get rid of Trump, and now Israel must do the same with Netanyahu."

"Israel must also acquire a new leadership that works for the citizens, not against them," she added in a statement.
