The WTO postpones the special meeting of the General Council originally scheduled for November 9th

On November 6, local time, the WTO notified its members to postpone the special meeting of the General Council originally scheduled for November 9 until further notice.

According to the original plan, at this special meeting of the General Council, a formal decision will be made on the appointment of the next Director-General.

David Walker, chairman of the WTO General Council, said that due to the epidemic and current events, member representatives cannot make a formal decision on the 9th and will continue consultations with members.

Earlier, the World Trade Organization had announced the final round of the selection of director-general. Nigerian candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala won the support of more members, ahead of South Korean candidate Yu Myung Hee.

The WTO has notified all members of this result on October 28. The selection committee intends to recommend Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the director-general, but the United States expressed support for the South Korean candidate Yu Myung Hee.
