Sanctions on EU President Belarus and others "Repression of citizens who complain of election fraud" November 7, 7:20

The EU-European Union is increasing pressure by deciding to impose sanctions such as asset freezes on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for cracking down on citizens who are protesting against fraud in the presidential election.

In Belarus, protests continue to demand the resignation of President Lukashenko for fraud in the presidential election in August, but President Lukashenko refused to resign and detained rebel executives and citizens. We are strengthening the crackdown.

In response to this, the EU announced on the 6th that it will impose sanctions such as asset freeze and prohibition of travel to the EU region on a total of 15 people including President Lukashenko himself and his eldest son who is an executive of the administration.

The EU has imposed the same sanctions on more than 40 people, including senior executives, but this is the first time that the president has been included and the pressure has increased.

In response, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the media, "I can't help but answer this," and said it was considering countermeasures.

In Belarus, while President Lukashenko has maintained his strong stance with the backing of Russia, the nationwide strikes that the rebels have called since late last month have not spread and have been stuck.
