The Karabakh Defense Army claims to have repulsed them, but some units would remain active in the vicinity of this fortress town, built on top of a stone wall, especially in the village of Karintak.
Make the passage to Stepanakert impossible
Their objective is to make impossible the passage towards Stepanakert and the rest of Nagorno-Karabakh, and thus to cut off the province of the supply of arms, ammunition and men.
If the Azerbaijanis took Shushi, it could be the end of the war.
Nagorno-Karabakh would be isolated and from the top of the city, Azerbaijani forces could bomb Stepanakert, located less than 10 km below.
The Armenian side is throwing all its forces into this battle, although the attacks in several places of the front line force it not to discover it and that Stepanakert has been heavily bombed for several days.
The conflict is in its 41st day and has caused the deaths of several thousand soldiers on both sides.
