In front of journalists, the Abidjan prosecutor, Richard Adou, gave a number of details on the arrests of opponents in recent days.

On November 3, the day after the announcement of the

establishment of a “National Transitional Council”

, around 20 people were arrested at Henri Konan Bédié's home.

Nine have since been released.

But twelve are still in the hands of justice, including the number 2 of the PDCI, Maurice Kakou Guikahué.

The president of the legal FPI, Pascal Affi N'Guessan, who announced on behalf of the opposition the establishment of this transition, and the president of the UDPCI, Albert Toikeusse Mabri, are "

on the run and actively sought

 ", according to the prosecutor.

For Richard Adou, by creating a "Transition Council" and announcing a parallel government, the opposition leaders committed an

act of sedition

constituting an attack and conspiracy against the authority of the State and the integrity of the national territory

 ”.

But the prosecution did not wait for the announcement of the transition to open an investigation.

Leaning on the consequences of the opposition's calls for civil disobedience and active boycott, the prosecutor seized on November 30, the day before the election, the dean of the examining magistrates for the opening of an information judicial, in particular for acts of terrorism, attack and conspiracy against the authority of the State, murders, organization and participation in an insurrectionary movement ...

Finally, the prosecutor affirmed that he had not arrested Henri Konan Bédié for fear that he would not support the detention, "

having regard to his age, and having regard to his physical condition

 ".
